Bertie County Traffic Cases in District Court
Every Bertie traffic case lands in Bertie District Court. The Bertie County Clerk of Superior Court keeps the court file for those citations. That holds whether a state trooper or a town officer wrote the ticket. There is no separate municipal court here. A town citation follows the same North Carolina state court path as any other. That single route is why one Bertie County traffic record can be checked several ways. Smart Search, Search Hearings, and the Bertie criminal calendar all draw on the same state system. The clerk does too. A town payment page or police record page will not give you the full docket. Work through the state tools instead.
Traffic Court Records in Bertie County
The court record behind a Bertie County citation is the case record. It can show the citation, the charge or offense, and case events. Hearing information, a disposition, and financial information also appear on the public panels. Names matter here. Case Summary is also called the Register of Actions. Case Events is Portal's label for the dated activity list. A citation number is just an identifier, though a useful one. It may be searchable in Portal for a public case. It does not prove the case was paid. It does not prove the case was closed, either. Nor does it prove the case is still set for the date printed on the ticket. The docket, not the ticket, carries the answer.
Bertie County Traffic Case Events
Read a Bertie County traffic Case Summary as a sequence, not a snapshot. A hearing entry gives current setting information when one is displayed. A notice of hearing is not a promise that the date held. Likewise, a motion is a request, not a granted order. Old papers go stale fast. Search Hearings and the Bertie criminal calendar are better current-date checks. A citation or notice printed weeks ago is not.
- Citation
- A traffic or infraction identifier that can be searchable in Portal when the case is public.
- Case Event
- A dated action recorded in the Case Summary timeline.
- Hearing
- A scheduled court event that can carry location and time information.
- Disposition
- The outcome or result entry for a case when that information is available.
Bertie County Citation Search Fields
Portal's traffic tools run on the same state system as other Bertie County case searches. The fields and controls described here come straight from official materials. Nothing more should be read into the table. It does not assume a live payment amount. It does not require a set field order. It also does not promise a particular Bertie citation format that no official document spells out.
| Field or control | Type | Required | Documented use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Citation Number | Text | Optional until used as criteria | Portal searchable criterion; local mail instruction says include it. |
| Party name / case number | Text | Optional | Portal/Smart Search general criteria. |
| Smart Search | Portal action | Start route | Finds public case information and the Case Summary. |
| Search Hearings | Portal action | Start route | Finds a current location and time using documented criteria. |
| Make Payments | Portal action | Required for online payment path | Only eligible payment types and cases continue; live checkout fields and payment amount are case-specific. |
| Bertie criminal calendar URL parameter | URL filter | County/type supplied | county=Bertie&type=Criminal in the official link. |
How to Look Up a Traffic Ticket
A Bertie County ticket lookup starts with whatever identifier you actually have. That may be the citation number, a party name, or a case number. Smart Search is the main public record route. Search Hearings then checks whether a setting is current. The Bertie criminal calendar offers another court-date route. Some citations take time to appear. A new ticket may not have shown up yet. A record may look incomplete. Or you may need a clerk-issued copy. In any of those cases, go to the Bertie County Clerk rather than assuming no court record exists. The clerk's main number is (252) 794-6800.
- Open the North Carolina eCourts Portal and choose Smart Search.
- Enter the citation number when it is available. A party name or case number is another documented search criterion.
- Open the matching public Case Summary and read its Case Events, Hearings, Dispositions, and Financial Information as available.
- Use Search Hearings for a current court location and time, then check the Bertie criminal calendar for the criminal calendar route.
- If a citation cannot be found or a date is unclear, call the clerk or use the courthouse counter and public terminal at 108 Dundee St. in Windsor.
Bertie County Traffic Hearing Checks
Every citation carries a court date. Still, check the current setting before acting on it. Portal's Search Hearings can search by case number, party name, business name, attorney name, attorney bar number, judicial officer, or courtroom. The official description confirms locations and times for results. It does not promise that every result shows every detail a reader might want. Continuances deserve special care. If one was requested, read the motion, any order, the later hearing entry, and the current calendar together. A request for a continuance is not itself a new court date. When a traffic setting stays unclear, changes, or goes missing, the Bertie County clerk and court office are the fallback that can settle it.
Finding Your Traffic Court Date
Treat the citation's printed date as a starting point only. The current hearing information in the docket is the record to confirm. Portal does not document a special Bertie citation-number pattern. Its full Enterprise Justice case-number pattern uses a two-digit year. Case-type letters come next. A six-digit sequence and a three-digit county identifier finish it out. The NCAOC example 21CR000003-910 shows that case-number format. It is not a sample Bertie traffic citation. Use whatever identifier appears in the case record exactly as written.
| Citation or case identifier | Use the citation number as printed, or the Portal case number returned by the public search. |
|---|---|
| Court | Bertie County District Court is the usual traffic court route. |
| Date and time | Confirm through Search Hearings, which provides current hearing locations and times. |
| Courtroom | A documented Search Hearings criterion; confirm its current value in the result or with the clerk. |
| Status | Review public Case Events, dispositions, and financial information without treating an absent panel as a final answer. |
Bertie County Traffic Payment Routes
Every Bertie County traffic payment runs through the same three doors: the counter, the mail, or an online channel tied to your Bertie case number and citation. Pick one and follow the clerk's instructions exactly.
The Clerk Cashier's Office handles eligible traffic payments in person. Cash works at the counter. So do cards, though a processing fee applies, along with money orders and certified checks. Personal checks are off the table no matter how you pay. Mailing a payment means a money order or certified check made out to the Bertie County Clerk of Superior Court, sent to PO Box 370, Windsor, NC 27983, with your citation number written in. Never mail cash.
The Bertie County payment information page lists each method the clerk accepts.
The Portal's Make Payments function lets you pay some eligible case types online, though card processing fees apply and not every Bertie County citation qualifies.
Paying or Contesting a Ticket
Handling a Bertie County ticket starts with three things. You need the case status, the court date, and which court route applies.
Your best response depends on the case. Some minor offenses can be waived. Pay fine and costs online, by mail, or in person before the court date. Paying counts as resolving the case. Contesting keeps it on the court docket for a hearing or another outcome.
Before you pay, check the Portal record, the citation services, and the clerk. A mailed waiver also has a catch. The written waiver on the citation must be signed and dated. Otherwise the matter stays pending and you still have to show up.
| Paying an eligible ticket | Contesting or responding in court |
|---|---|
| May waive a qualifying minor offense by payment before the court date. | Uses the court process rather than treating payment as the response. |
| Eligibility is case-specific and should be confirmed in Portal, citation services, or with the clerk. | The current hearing should be checked in Search Hearings and the Bertie criminal calendar. |
| Eligible routes include Portal, the clerk counter, or mail with the documented payment method. | Use the clerk for local procedural questions and a current setting. |
Missed date or unpaid disposition: After 20 days from a missed date, an unanswered or undisposed matter may be reported to DMV as a failure to appear. After disposition, 40 days of failure to pay may be reported as a failure to pay. The Judicial Branch says DMV can revoke driving privileges based on those reports, subject to the stated resolution routes.
Bertie County Traffic Reduction Requests
Reduction and dismissal requests run through the Bertie County case itself. They do not run through a payment screen.
The online tools only submit requests. Nothing is assured. Statewide traffic guidance says some speeding matters may qualify for an online reduction request. Some correctable matters may qualify for an online dismissal request. Either way, the District Attorney decides under the normal process.
A waiver-eligible payment is not a shortcut around any of this. First confirm the citation is eligible and read the current case record. Then use the state and Bertie County channels cited before the court date arrives.
The Judicial Branch's traffic-violations information lays out the statewide waiver, reduction, and dismissal options.
Those state options sit beside, not in place of, the Bertie County Clerk's case-specific payment and court-date information.
Court Traffic Record vs Driver Record
A court traffic record and a DMV driving record are two different files. Two different offices hold them.
The court record lives with the Bertie County Clerk. It covers the citation, the case activity, the setting, the disposition, and the money side of the court matter. DMV keeps its own driving-record file and receives reports under state processes.
Need the court case? Use Portal or the clerk. A court case lookup is not the same as asking DMV for a driving record.
| Court traffic record | Driver record | |
|---|---|---|
| Custodian | Bertie County Clerk of Superior Court and the state court system | North Carolina DMV |
| Focus | Citation, Case Events, hearing, disposition, and court financial information | Separate DMV driving-record information and reports received under state procedures |
| Route | Portal Smart Search, Search Hearings, clerk terminal, or clerk request | DMV's own record process, not the Bertie court docket |
Bertie County Traffic Deadline Milestones
Deadline checks on a Bertie County traffic case turn on the case itself. The hearing status and the clerk's contact line matter too.
Two documented time points exist, and they answer different problems. The 20-day period runs after a missed court date. It applies when the matter has not been answered or disposed. The 40-day period runs after court disposition when payment has not been made. Either one can trigger a DMV report under the rules the Judicial Branch describes.
Neither number replaces a live check of the Bertie County case. The current hearing, payment eligibility, and resolution path vary case by case.
If your Bertie County citation date has passed, start with Portal and Search Hearings. Then call the clerk promptly for the local procedural route. The clerk cannot undo a missed setting, but it is the local contact for what the court file currently shows.
Fees and Copies
Bertie County traffic copies come from the clerk. The clerk's fee schedule governs them.
A traffic case copy follows the same clerk-fee statute as other Bertie County court records. The fees below are statutory service lines. They are not a promise that every traffic request uses each one. Before ordering, ask the clerk about the exact document. Ask too about any certification need and how to pay. The local traffic-payment page sets no separate copy prices.
| Traffic record service | Fee | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| First page of each document copy | $2.00 | Statutory copy preparation charge. |
| Each additional copy page or fraction | $0.25 | Statutory additional-page charge. |
| Certificate under seal | $3.00 | Separate from the copy charge. |
| Exemplification of records | $10.00 | Statutory service line. |
| Criminal record search | $25.00 | Subject to statutory exceptions. |
The G.S. 7A-308 statutory fee schedule is the source for these clerk service amounts.
The statute draws the clerk's fee lines among a plain copy, a certificate, and an exemplification for a Bertie County traffic case.
Bertie County Traffic Clerk Fallback
Portal cannot answer every Bertie County citation question. When that happens, fall back on the clerk and the courthouse. Do not settle for a generic payment screen.
The Clerk of Superior Court holds the traffic case record locally. Public self-service terminals sit in clerk offices statewide.
Ask about the case number and the current setting. Ask as well about a paper or certified copy, or a documented mail method for an eligible payment. The Bertie courthouse sits at 108 Dundee St., Windsor, NC 27983. The clerk's main line is (252) 794-6800. It is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
